My engagement cake inspiration came from a Martha Stewart Weddings magazine that dates back to the early 2000’s. It was the first cake I ever fell in love with, originally designed and created by Wendy Kromer.
I used actual home-made marzipan for this one, the leaves and cherries are also made with marzipan and hand painted. The inside of the cake is an almond-cherry flavour, it was slightly overpowering with the almond flavoured marzipan but we managed to choke it down anyway.
This was the first time I made a cake that justified all the other cakes I had made while practicing for The Wedding Cake. In all honesty if I were to be asked to make this one again I would without hesitation, it is one of the loveliest cakes I have ever seen and I am very happy with the way it turned out – even though I had no clue how to get my edges clean back then ;)
